FIELD WORK

Have you ever wondered where all those scientist running experiments and publishing research get the materials and information they use in these efforts? Of course, it comes from scientists, naturalists and the occasional layperson going out into the wilds of the world and collecting it. However, with the huge amounts of material gathered from the wild over the last several hundred years sitting in collections around the world, we can sometimes forget that despite this wealth of material, we have barely scratched the surface of revealing the secrets of the natural world.

Our project is an example of this dynamic in that, while we have a number of samples of our target snake species in collections that we will utilize, we fall far short of what is required to achieve our objective from collections alone. The result of this is the need for an intense phase of field work to go out, find and sample the species we need. And this is where we are open to support.

Please note, there are a number of snakes with medically significant venom, and several others large enough to deliver medically significant bites. As such, it is important that no one takes the liberty of interacting with snakes on their own. Those selected to support the projects efforts will have training provided and be accompanied by professionals.
